ITECH 200 – Game Design Proposal Title
Spring 2022
Leo Kuehlwein
The prototype for the game I created was through my creativity for the games I have played in the past, and ideas for them. I used many programs to build and finish the game design needed for the class including Blender, Unity, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and XD. Unity being the most useful for allowing me to visualize my game in 3D.
Research: The game I wanted was to be a 3D first-person shooter. The setting take place in many locations similar to the style I have seen in the games I researched. These games had maps or worlds that you could play in. Using the other games I have played and researched online, helped me create the basics of the game I was to make.
Challenges: The challenges for me were starting from scratch, learning a new program. I had already familiarized myself with Illustrator and photoshop. There were a lot of unknown tools and different navigation presets that, did not work the same way as in Adobe. Blender had so many issues, I couldn’t use certain assets that I had created. Even now, I am still experiencing difficulties. The main asset I have created for the game is a tank, where my goal was to make everything animated. The smoke particle system work great, but upon rendering the object it disappears from the viewport.
Strategy: What we have learned in this class was brand new to me. As a result, creating objects that we had to make were slow and took a lot of time. My goal was to create a scene in unity where I am able to present the idea of how my game was going to be like and also get animations for a specific tank in the game for players to control.
Design approach: Since my game is 3D, I found many online asset sites where users can download and edit assets to be able to use them in blender or unity. Unity helped me visualize the map I was planning. I was able to import assets from blender and online and place them into the scene and arrange the game in unity. I was able to change the color, size, weight and visibility of objects.
Summary results: Looking back at what I was able to accomplish given the obstacles and difficulty I’ve encountered, I am pleased with the results. If I had to start this project again from scratch, I know what I would adjust next time. This was a great experience and now if I am tasked with a similar assignment I will know what needs to be done and how to plan it.
Battlefield
The game is a low poly first-person shooter game that takes place in many historical events. The character replays those events in levels through the campaign at first and then can replay them in multiplayer where both sides can win the event. The player takes part in different game modes throughout the course of the game like missile launch, team death match, capture objectives, search and rescue and AI battles. In both modes the players can use the surrounding buildings, trees, rocks, water, landscape, and communicate with their team to gain and advantage over the other enemy team. The player has the ability to customize almost everything they want, giving them the option of what guns to use in battle, the clothing their character will wear, and their physical appearance.
